Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache for frosting
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings for decoration

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over low heat and stir in cocoa powder until well combined.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs and whisk until smooth.
  • Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Add the melted cocoa butter mixture into the egg mixture and stir until well integrated.
  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the cocoa mixture, stirring gently to avoid overmixing.
  • Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in their pans for 20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare chocolate ganache by melting chocolate and heavy cream together until smooth.
  • Once cool, assemble the cake by layering with ganache and topping with chocolate shavings.
