Equipment

  • loaf pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • fork
  • oven

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces ripe bananas
  • cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 4×8 inch loaf pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until mostly smooth. You’ll want some lumps for added texture.
  • Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas until well combined.
  • Mix in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until blended thoroughly.
  • Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture, then mix in the flour until just incorporated.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For best results, use ripe bananas with brown spots for maximum flavor. You can replace the egg with ¼ cup of unsweetened applesauce for an egg-free version.
