Instructions

Preparation Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in the chopped apples and brown sugar until evenly distributed.
  • Scoop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Flatten each mound slightly with the back of a spoon.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • While cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Drizzle glaze over slightly cooled fritters and let it set before serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep the fritters light and fluffy. Use firm apples like Granny Smith for best texture and flavor. Chop apples into small, even pieces for consistent baking. For a crispier top, broil the fritters for 1-2 minutes after glazing. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for best texture before serving leftovers.
