Preparing Crispy Hot Honey Feta Chicken
Crispy Hot Honey Feta Chicken is a delightful dish that’s perfect for any dinner occasion. Not only is it packed with flavor, but the combination of crispy breadcrumbs and creamy feta topped with the sweet heat of hot honey is utterly irresistible. Let’s break down the steps to create this culinary masterpiece.
Gather Your Ingredients
Before diving into cooking, it’s crucial to have everything at your fingertips. For this recipe, you’ll need:
- Honey: ⅓ cup (110g)
- Hot Sauce: 1 ½ teaspoon (Frank's or Cholula work well)
- Chilli Flakes: ¾ tsp
- Chicken Breasts: 2 (250g/9oz each)
- Seasonings: Paprika, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, black pepper, and cayenne
- Plain Flour: 35g (¼ cup)
- Eggs: 2, beaten
- Panko Breadcrumbs: 65g (1 cup)
- Vegetable Oil: For frying
- Feta Cheese: 200g (7oz), crumbled
You can find many of these ingredients at your local grocery store or even online. Prep your workspace by rinsing and slicing your chicken!
Make the Hot Honey Mixture
Start by combining the honey, hot sauce, and chilli flakes in a small bowl. Heat it in the microwave for about 20 seconds to blend the flavors effectively. If you prefer, you can simmer it on the stove. This step not only helps infuse the honey but also elevates the heat. Adjust the spice levels to suit your tastebuds — a little extra hot sauce can go a long way!
Season the Chicken
Next, slice your chicken breasts horizontally to create four evenly sized fillets. This not only helps them cook faster but allows for better flavor absorption. Create a seasoning mix by combining paprika, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, black pepper, and a pinch of cayenne in a bowl. Give it a good mix, ensuring that the spices are evenly distributed.
Coat the Chicken
Now comes the fun part! Set up three shallow dishes: one for flour mixed with half of your seasoning, one for your beaten eggs, and the last for the panko breadcrumbs with the remaining seasoning. Dredge each piece of chicken in flour, dip it in egg, then coat it with panko, making sure to cover it well. It's this three-step process that will give your crispy hot honey feta chicken that satisfying crunch!
Fry the Chicken to Perfection
In a large pan, heat enough vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Gently place your coated chicken pieces in the pan (fry in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding). Cook each side for about 3-4 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Transfer the chicken to a wire rack to allow excess oil to drip off.
Add Feta and Finish Under the Grill
Once the chicken is perfectly crispy, shower it generously with crumbled feta. This creamy topping will melt just right under the grill. Place the tray under the grill on high until the feta turns golden and slightly crispy — a perfect contrast to the crispy chicken below.
Serve drizzled with your homemade hot honey and enjoy the delicious fusion of flavors.

Cooking Tips and Notes for Crispy Hot Honey Feta Chicken
Tips to Ensure Crispy Chicken Every Time
Getting that perfectly crispy texture for your Crispy Hot Honey Feta Chicken comes down to a few key factors:
- Use Panko Breadcrumbs: They’re lighter and crispier than regular breadcrumbs, providing the ideal crunch.
- Pat Dry: Always pat your chicken dry before seasoning. This helps the coating stick better.
- Heat the Oil: Make sure your oil is hot enough before adding the chicken; a breadcrumb should sizzle when dropped in.
- Avoid Overcrowding: Fry in batches if needed. Overcrowding lowers the oil temperature and makes it harder to achieve crispiness.

Crispy Hot Honey Feta Chicken
Equipment
- Sharp Knife & Chopping Board
- 2 Small Bowls
- 3 Large Shallow Dishes
- Large Tray and Wire Rack
- Large Pan & Tongs
Ingredients
- 110 g Honey
- 1.5 teaspoon Hot Sauce I like Frank's or Cholula
- ¾ teaspoon Chilli Flakes
- 500 g Chicken Breasts 2x 250g/9oz
- 2 teaspoon Paprika
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
- ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ½ teaspoon Dried Oregano
- ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
- ¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
- 35 g Plain Flour ¼ cup
- 2 Eggs beaten
- 65 g Panko Breadcrumbs 1 cup
- Veg Oil as needed (6-8 tbsp)
- 200 g Feta crumbled
Instructions
- Combine the honey, hot sauce and chilli flakes in a bowl and warm in the microwave (20 seconds or so). Stir then leave to cool. You can also do this on the stove in a small pot (just bring to a simmer then remove and cool). You can easily adjust the heat with chilli flakes/hot sauce if desired.
- Horizontally slice the chicken breasts right through the centre to create 4 even-sized breasts. In a small pot or bowl combine the paprika, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, cayenne and black pepper.
- Line up 3 large shallow dishes and place a large tray at the end. The first bowl is flour + half of the seasoning mix, the second is beaten egg and the 3rd is the Panko with the rest of the seasoning. One by one take the chicken and dredge through the flour, into the egg, then the breadcrumbs and finish by placing on the tray. Make sure you thoroughly coat the chicken at each stage (namely the breadcrumbs).
- Add enough oil to coat the base of a large pan and place it over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot enough that a breadcrumb rapidly sizzles, carefully place in the chicken (if you can't fit 4 pieces then work in 2 batches, top up the oil in between if needed). Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until deep golden and crispy on the outside and white/piping hot through the centre. Place on a wire rack above the tray.
- Add the crumbled feta, covering as much of the chicken as possible, then place under the grill on high until it starts turning golden (it should be buttery soft and a little crisp on top).
- Serve with your preferred amount of hot honey drizzled over and enjoy (tightly store leftover honey in the fridge).
